WORKSHOP PICCOLA CAVA

INSTANT DESIGN LAB FOR THE VALLEY OF THE TEMPLES, AGRIGENTO

Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples

The broad and unresolved question of the archaeological sites in Sicily needs an approach that is both pragmatic and visionary. On the one hand we must confront the current economic and social conditions worsened by the current crisis, on the other it is necessary to imagine other forms of architecture and dwelling places, cities and landscapes. We need a way of designing that is going to focus on the long-term vision but at the same time develops itself in the areas beside the individuals interested in a continuous dialogue.
In these circumstances it seems necessary to try a different model of production of architectural and urban design, imagining other ways and times in the relationship between client and designer.

Piccola cava

Piccola cava approach a field of exploration where architectural and archaeological practices overlap and mix with contemporary art. The activities on site are coordinated by a technical project instant Lab wich aims to build a space organized as a place for rest and reflection, dedicated to outdoor activities like reading and listening to music. The formal patterns become construction tools for project ideas in a process that aims to integrate the economic and technical level with architectural and landscape quality in order to imagine new ways of living.

NEW CONCORDIA ISLAND ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION

NEW CONCORDIA ISLAND ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION

Collapse is the measure of erasing.

Can architecture suspend the erasing at the margins of disaster? Otherwise, can it trigger mechanisms of metabolism and coexistence with everyday life?

Why the reaction to the trauma is the removal of objects that can evoke the image of tragedy?

Why we use to rebuild previous states, totally ignoring that every tradition is a cultural invention?

Why do the answers to the tragedies exclude the possibility of transforming traumatic events in new visions for the future?

Why don't the erasure and the dispersion offer new scenario of intermediate transformation?
